Man cries wolf about hotel fight, steals from safe when clerk checks on it
FARGO - A hotel clerk who left the front desk early today to check on a reported fight didn't find one, but when she returned, she did find money missing from the safe - and the man who cried wolf about the fight was gone.
The man came to the front desk at Comfort Suites, 1415 35th St. S., at about 2:30 a.m., saying there was a fight that sounded violent in a room above him, Sgt. Mark Lykken said.
The clerk went upstairs, but there was no fight.
"When she came back, her key was missing and there was money taken out of the safe," Lykken said.
Police had no suspect or description to release as of this morning. The man who reported the fight wasn't in the room where he said he was staying, Lykken said.
The money stolen from the safe amounted to less than $1,000.
The clerk inventoried the keys and found only the safe key missing, Lykken said.
