Man gets 10 years probation for burglary
Ramon Alexander Lopez, 20, of Callaway has been sentenced on a felony charge of second-degree burglary. A felony charge of first-degree burglary was dismissed in a plea agreement.
According to court records, about 3 a.m. on Sept. 20 police were called to the 500 block of East Union Street in Detroit Lakes.
They found Lopez standing by a black pickup truck in the driveway, wearing a white tank top, silver neck chain and no shoes.
That matched the description of a man who had forced his way into a residence there. A couple woke up to find Lopez in their bedroom. The man spoke to the intruder and he identified himself as Lopez. The man guided him outside, where he was arrested.
He had earlier entered another residence on the same block, where he spoke to a child and rummaged through cupboards, taking numerous food items. He left behind his black Nike tennis shoes.
He appeared Thursday before District Judge Lisa Borgen, who issued a stayed sentence and placed him on supervised probation for 10 years.
A successful completion of probation will result in a misdemeanor conviction.
He must pay $1,090 in fines and court fees, but can do community service work in lieu of the fine.
He must also complete inpatient chemical dependency treatment.
