Man gets 13 months, stayed, for violating sex offender registration law
Chanan El Carlson, 44, of 811 East main St., Menahga, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of violation of the predatory offender registration law.
On April 13, 1993, he was convicted of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct and required to register his address.
On March 10, 2007, he informed the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension he lived in Menahga. On March 27 a Becker county deputy discovered he'd been living in Ogema with a girlfriend, and that the two had moved recently to Audubon. He did not inform police about his new address, according to court records.
He pleaded guilty on Jan. 7 and was sentenced Wednesday by District Judge Peter Irvine to 13 months in prison, execution of sentence stayed five years. He was placed on supervised probation and ordered to serve 71 days in jail. The time has been served and he was ordered released. He was also fined $300 plus court fees.
