Man gets prison for assault
A Detroit Lakes man was convicted and sentenced recently in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of second degree assault with a dangerous weapon.
Patrick Charles Bonga, 31, of 800 8th St., Detroit Lakes, was ordered to serve 54 months (4½ years) in prison (with credit for 119 days already served), and fined $210, to be taken from his prison earnings. A second count of the same charge was dismissed at sentencing.
Bonga was accused of stabbing a man in his left calf during an argument that occurred at the victim’s Detroit Lakes apartment during the evening of Nov. 4.
According to the complaint, Bonga had demanded money from the victim and when he refused to give it to him, stabbed the man in the leg and punched him in the face multiple times, using a closed fist. He also reportedly threatened to stab the man in the face and kill him.
