Man gets prison for assault with bat
A Detroit Lakes man was sentenced Monday in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of third degree assault.
Ira James Anderson, 31, of 302½ Langford St., Detroit Lakes, was ordered to serve 30 months (2½ years) in prison and pay a $135 court fine, as well as $6,364 in restitution to the victim in the case.
A second charge of second-degree assault with a weapon-causing bodily harm was dismissed at sentencing.
Anderson was accused of assaulting a male victim on the afternoon of Jan. 27, 2011, after allegedly got into a fight with the victim and starting to punch him.
When the man bent down to put on his shoes and leave the residence, Anderson reportedly struck him on the back of the head with a baseball bat, the complaint stated.
The victim was later taken to the hospital for treatment; he required six staples to be placed in the wound to his head, and also suffered a concussion and broken nose.
