Man named in train-pedestrian accident
The Becker County Sheriff's Department has identified a man killed by a train in Detroit Lakes on Dec. 18.
Norman Lee Maunu, 54, was killed by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train about 6:58 p.m.
The eastbound train hit him as he was walking 400 yards east of the County Road 54 railroad crossing.
He was killed on impact, and no foul play is suspected.
Maunu had been living at an apartment building in Park Rapids. He is believed to have left home on Dec. 17 and spent time in Detroit Lakes prior to the train accident the following day.
He had no relatives in the vicinity, but the sheriff's department notified relatives in Texas and Missouri.
The victim's body was sent to the Ramsey County medical examiner's office for identification.
A review of the video, investigation reports and all other information received by the sheriff's department "clearly shows no signs of foul play," Sheriff Tim Gordon said in a news release.
