Man sentenced for assault with tire iron, shovel
Aaron Francis Dewandeler, 24, of 30564 County Road 37, Ponsford has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony third-degree assault -- substantial bodily harm.
According to court records;
In the early morning hours of July 20 he assaulted several people near Ponsford.
He and a woman arrived at the Rex Robbins Jr. residence. Also at the home was Robbins' friend, Mari Clark.
During an argument, Dewandeler picked up a tire iron and hit Robbins in the head with it. He also hit him in the head with a shovel. When Clark tried to stop him, he hit her in the face with the shovel.
Robbins suffered a broken jaw and required 11 staples in the top of his head to close the wound.
Clark required six stitches above her left eye.
On Wednesday, District Judge Joe Evans sentenced him to 15 months in prison, execution stayed five years. He was placed on supervised probation for five years.
He must serve 124 days in jail, with credit for 124 days served, and pay a $1,000 fine, plus court fees and a $100 public defender reimbursement fee.
He was ordered to have no contact with the victims, submit to drug and alcohol testing and complete a cognitive skills class.
