Man sentenced in brass knuckles case
GRAND FORKS - An Air Force sergeant was sentenced to two years in prison and a year of supervised probation Wednesday for assaulting a man with brass knuckles.
David Exelbert, a 25-year-old flight engineer, was accused of hitting and injuring a 43-year-old man in September in downtown Grand Forks near Sledsters bar on Fourth Street.
A jury convicted Exelbert in May of aggravated assault. The crime is a Class C felony that carries a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Exelbert must report to the Grand Forks County jail on June 13.
