Man sentenced for domestic assault
Dennis Frank St. Clair, 43, of 36585 County Road 34, Ogema has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony domestic assault. A felony charge of fifth-degree assault was dropped in a plea agreement.
According to court records:
On Jan. 25 he went to his girlfriend's house while intoxicated. They had been in a significant relationship for 12 years and had a 4-year-old child together. He was supposed to have been there hours earlier, and she told him he was not welcome there when he had been drinking.
He wanted to drive the child into town, and she would not let him because he had been drinking. She tried to get the car seat out of the back seat of his car, and he got angry and intentionally caused the car to come into contact with her. Frightened, she took the child and ran to a neighbor's house.
On Dec. 17, District Judge Peter Irvine sentenced him to 21 months in prison, execution of sentence stayed five years. He was placed on supervised probation for five years.
He was sentenced to 80 days in jail, with work release and STS privileges granted. He was fined $1,000 plus court fees. He must complete a domestic abuse program and a chemical use assessment and submit to drug and alcohol testing.
