Man sentenced to jail
Andrew Michael Freichels, 24, no address listed, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony violating the sex offender registration law.
According to court records, he was adjudged delinquent of felony first-degree criminal sexual conduct in 2000, and was required to register as a sex offender until July of this year.
His last registered address was at an apartment in Detroit Lakes. His parents reported him missing after not hearing from him since Jan. 18.
They learned he had not been attending college in Detroit Lakes as they had thought, and had been evicted from his apartment for failure to pay rent since October of 2009. His roommate had not seen him since Jan. 8. His whereabouts were unknown and he failed to update the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension about his new living arrangements.
On April 27 he appeared before District Judge Peter Irvine, withheld adjudgment and placed him on supervised probation for five years. Upon successful completion of probation -- including following the registration law -- the charge will be dismissed.
He was ordered to serve 119 days in jail and pay a $1,000 fine, plus court fees. He must get a mental health evaluation and follow the recommendations.
