Man sentenced to nearly six years
A rural Park Rapids man has been sentenced to a total of 68 months (5½ years) in prison after pleading guilty to multiple felony counts of theft and burglary involving eight separate court cases.
Michael Nicholas Thelen Jr., 40, of 37075 County Road 127, Park Rapids, pled guilty to two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, one count of second degree burglary, one count of third degree burglary, two counts of motor vehicle theft and one gross misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated.
All of the incidents took place between October 2012 and April 2013.
Due to a 1993 conviction for burglary, Thelen is prohibited from possessing a firearm. According to court records, Thelen pawned a Savage .30-06 caliber bolt action rifle that was discovered to be the same one taken in a burglary at a rural Becker County home that was reported on Oct. 28.
The court records also show that Thelen broke into a Becker County cabin, and took two ATV’s from two separate properties back in November.
In April, Thelen was pulled over for a traffic violation and two stolen guns were found in his vehicle. In another April incident, he was pulled over on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
Multiple other charges were dropped in the plea deal, including one count of felony drug possession.
