Man sentenced for stealing ATV
Dennis Michael Norcross, 22, of 46325 284th St., Ponsford has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony theft of a motor vehicle (with a value over $2,500).
According to court records:
On May 13 a yellow 2000 Polaris ATV valued at $3,800 was stolen, along with other items, from a cabin on Bass Lake.
In the early morning hours of May 30, Norcross was riding the stolen ATV when he collided with a van on County Road 124 near Ponsford.
He had picked up two passengers, one of whom told authorities Norcross did not own an ATV, while the other said he assumed the ATV had been stolen. The ignition had been tampered with to start without keys.
He pleaded guilty March 2 and on Friday he was sentenced by District Judge Joe Evans to 17 months in prison, execution of sentence stayed five years.
He was placed on supervise probation and ordered to serve nine months in prison. He can do STS work in lieu of a $1,000 fine. He must pay restitution of $2,487 and get a chemical use assessment.
