Man sentenced for violating order for protection
Bryan Walter Sorenson, 42, no address listed, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of violating an order for protection.
On Feb. 21 the court issued an order for protection covering a woman and her four children. According to court records, he violated the order by talking to the woman in public on at least two occasions -- once at a big box retail outlet and once at a car dealership, both in Detroit Lakes.
District Judge Joe Evans sentenced him to 15 months in prison, execution of sentence stayed five years. He was placed on supervised probation for five years.
He was ordered to serve 45 days in jail, with credit for 30 days served. He was fined $1,000 plus court fees, with $500 of that fine stayed.
He must attend a domestic violence program and follow all recommendations and follow all orders for protection. He must also get a mental health evaluation and follow the recommendations.
