Margaret M. Holmgren, 85, of Lake Park, died Monday, February 23, 2009 at St. Mary's Innovis Health, Detroit Lakes.
Margaret was born to Arthur and Jeanie (Keathing) Thomas on Aug. 13, 1923, in Ayr, Scotland. She grew up and attended school in the Dudley area of England. Following her schooling, she served in the English military, where she was a jeep driver. She met her future husband, Oscar Holmgren, while he was serving in the U.S. military. He was stationed overseas and they met during the troop buildup prior to the invasion of Normandy.
Margaret moved to the United States in April 1947, and married Oscar on April 7, 1947. Together they made their home in Lake Park. For several years, she worked at the lefse plant in Lake Park. She later worked as a nurse's aide at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes and finally at Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park, until her retirement.
Margaret enjoyed flowers, knitting and reading, but especially enjoyed the time spent with family. She will be dearly missed by her children, Raymond John (Wanda) Holmgren of West Fargo, Glenn (Patsy) Holmgren of Audubon, Frances (Curt) Abel of Frazee and Becky (Keith) Krogen of Lake Park; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a brother, John (Audrey); sister, Freida (Joe); as well as many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Margaret in death were her husband of 50 years, Oscar; brothers, Iver, Wally and Ron; and sisters, Jean, Beryl and Pat.
