Former Fargo resident Mark E. Melby, 59, of Brooklyn Park, Minn., died Sunday, August 9, 2009.
Mark Erling Melby was born the son of Margaret H. and Donald B. Melby on Jan. 27, 1950 in Northfield, Minn. He attended elementary school and Fargo North High School. Mark was active in the Boy Scouts of American and earned both the Eagle Award and the Prodeoe Patre Award.
After high school, he attended Concordia College in Moorhead, where he received his bachelor of arts degree in 1972. In the same, year, Mark married Sondra A. Brothers at First Lutheran Church in Fargo. They made their home in Burnsville, Minn., where their two children, Brock and Trisha, were born.
Mark was in banking all of his adult life. He attended the Bank Management Institute at St. Olaf College in Northfield for three summers, and graduated at the top of his class. He served as a vice president of First State Bank in Apple Valley and later, at the Richfield Bank & Trust. Mark also served for three years on the board of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).
Surviving Mark are his wife, Sandra Melby of Brooklyn Park; son Brock Melby of Arlington, Texas; daughter Trisha Willett of St. Paul; his mother, Margaret Melby of Detroit Lakes; two brothers, Rolf Melby of Minnetonka, Minn., and David Melby of Detroit Lakes; and two sisters, Louise Craig of Melbourne, Fla., and Constance Mertin of Las Vegas, Nev.; as well as five grandchildren.
Preceding Mark in death was his father, Donald B. Melby.
Funeral arrangements are pending in Brooklyn Park.
