Marlyn B. "M.B." Nelson, 74, of rural Lake Park, died Sunday, August 2, 2009 at his home on Middle Cormorant Lake.
Marlyn Berthel Nelson was born to Albert and Myrtle (Broughton) Nelson on Sept. 10, 1934 in Detroit Lakes, where he was raised and educated. M.B. married Darlene Haugen on March 17, 1957 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, rural Audubon.
M.B. served in the United States Army for two years, from 1957 to 1959. After he received an honorable discharge from the military, M.B began working for Ace Construction in Oklahoma and Kansas. M.B. and Darlene moved back to the Lake Park area in 1966, when he started to work for Dieseth, Sellin Brothers and Harvey Nelson Construction. He started M.B. Nelson Construction in 1984 and for the past 18 years, has spent his winters in Apache Junction, Ariz.
M.B. was a member of Lake Eunice Evangelical Free Church, rural Detroit Lakes.
Surviving M.B. are his wife, Dar; son, David (Carla Jean) Nelson of Lake Park; daughter,Carla Ann Bergren of Detroit Lakes; six grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, David Allan Nelson.
There will be visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Agape Acres Christian Center (nine miles south of Lake Park on County Road 5), with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at Agape Acres Christian Center, with interment following at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Audubon.
