Marshmallow Foundation’s Mutt March
The Marshmallow Foundation is hosting this year’s Mutt March outside of Lucky Dog on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This will be the third Mutt March and as usual, all proceeds go to the animals under the care of the Marshmallow Foundation.
The Marshmallow Foundations is a non-profit animal Rescue and shelter in Detroit Lakes.
Registration to walk will be $15 per person. Sherrie Obright, executive director of the Marshmallow Foundation, hopes that participants will make teams and get sponsors to help the campaign.
“We like to see people get sponsors or put together teams to raise money. All the funds that are raised that day go toward our day to day operations of caring for the animals,” she said.
Obwright also hopes that pet owners feel free to bring their furry friends along for the day.
“We would like to see dogs in the walk with their owners,” she added.
Each year the Marshmallow Foundation puts forth a lot of hard work and dedication towards organizing the events that take place at the march.
This year activities include the actual march, carnival games, a dunk tank, a silent auction, a food booth and a bake sale, as well as a gun raffle at 3 p.m.
“One of our board members has been very active in Mutt March. She works on helping line up the activities,” she said.
They also have an en-tire committee that puts together activities and asks for donations for prizes, silent auction items, and other things that are necessary to host the event.
“It’s one of the many fundraisers that we do throughout the year to raise funds for taking care of the animals,” said Obwright.
New to Mutt March this year is the dunk tank. Sherrie says the committee is trying to get ‘pillars in society’ to volunteer their time and get dunked for a good reason.
So far they’ve contacted founders of the Marshmallow Foundation, local bankers, and law enforcement officers. Sherrie says she’s looking forward to the dunk tank and hopes it will be a fun time.
Tickets for carnival games will be $1 each, or seven tickets for $5. There will be a $5 meal available that includes a sandwich, chips, a drink, and a baked goodie.
The gun raffle is $10. To purchase a ticket and win the raffle you must be 18 years old. Five guns will be raffled off and you do not need to be present to win. Obwright hopes the community will come support, and help out the Marshmallow Foundation’s cause.
“We are a local impound facility for seven of the local communities, so I hope that people will come out,” she said.
Mutt March takes place at the site of the Marshmallow Foundation, or Lucky Dog at 1478 Mallard Street. For more information visit http://www.marshmallowfoundation.org/ or call (218) 847- 4100.
