Mary Ann Nylander

Mary Ann Nylander, 87, of Detroit Lakes, died at Emmanuel Community in Detroit Lakes on Monday, March 26, 2012, of complications from Alzheimer's Disease.
Mary Ann Braseth was born August 31, 1924, near Lake Park. She attended school in Lake Park, graduating in 1941. She attended Moorhead State Teachers College for two years, earning her teaching certificate.
Mary Ann began her teaching career at Rural District 2 near Lake Park. On March 24, 1945 she married Vanner Nylander. In 1958 Mary Ann resumed her teaching career and continued her education, earning a master's degree. Vanner died in 1981. She taught second and fourth grade at the elementary school in Hawley, retiring in 1985.
Following retirement, Mary Ann worked part time for Moorhead State University as a student teaching supervisor. She enjoyed traveling and playing the piano. She was active in First Lutheran Church, Audubon, before moving to Emmanuel.
Mary Ann Nylander is survived by daughters Judie (Jace) Lahlum of Park Rapids and Susan (James) Aberdeen of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; son Robert, of Audubon; and three grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, a sister and two brothers.
Memorial services are set for 2 p.m. Monday, April 2 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, with visitation for one hour prior to services.
