Former St. Paul resident Mary H. Veronen Paulsen, 67, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, August 18, 2014 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21 at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. Friends may call for one hour prior to services.

Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Inver Grove Heights.

Mary Hedwig Veronen Paulsen was born to Raymond and Arlene (Mack) Veronen on September 22, 1946 in Detroit Lakes. She attended one room schools during grades one through six and then junior high at the Holmes School, graduating in 1964 from Detroit Lakes High School.

She attended business school in Fargo and then moved to St. Paul to work for the Minnesota Department of Human Services in 1965. She retired in 2003 after 38 years of service.

Mary married the love of her life, Douglas W. Paulsen, November 12, 1977 at the Ft. Snelling Chapel in St. Paul. They made their home in St. Paul and Cottage Grove prior to moving to Detroit Lakes in 2010 to live with her mother. Doug died June 26, 2014.

Mary enjoyed reading, crocheting, trying new recipes and spending time in her camper at the lake with family and friends. She was a Lioness for many years. She was a caring and thoughtful daughter, sister and friend.

Mary is survived by her mother, Arlene in the Frazee Care Center; brothers, Jay (Mavis) of Staples and Matthew (Barbara) of Ogema; five nephews; one niece; grand-nieces and grand-nephews; Doug's two special nieces, Josette (Mike) Ihrke of St. Paul and Paulette Cloutier of Franklin, N.C.; and special friend, Judy Woods of Newport, Minn.
