Former Fargo and Detroit Lakes resident Mary Tietgens-Hanson, 92, of Christine, N.D., died Sunday, December 4, 2011 at her daughter's home in Christine.
A mass of Christian burial is set for 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, with Monsignor Timothy McGee, officiating. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8 at David-Donehower Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to the mass on Friday.
Mary Elizabeth Tietgens-Hanson was born to Fred and Emma (Gravell) Larsen on January 11, 1919 in Lake Eunice Township, rural Audubon. At age four, she lost her mother and was raised by the Sisters of St. Benedict at Mount St. Benedict in Crookston.
Mary was united in marriage to Henry Tietgens. They farmed on the shores of Little Pelican Lake in rural Detroit Lakes. For many summers, they also worked at Fair Hills Resort on Pelican Lake. Henry died in 1990. Mary was united in marriage to Elmer Hanson, February 29, 1992 in Detroit Lakes. They made their home on Jackson Avenue in Detroit Lakes until Elmer's death in 1996.
Mary moved to Sheyenne Crossing in West Fargo and recently, to Christine.
Survivors include two daughters: Liz Moen of Fargo and Mary (Allan) Swenson of Christine; and a grandson, Jeff, in Korea.
