Maurice M. "Maurie" Strom, 70, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, Sept. 25, 2009 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo.
Maurice Strom was born to Maurice and Edna Alvstad Strom on July 5, 1939 in Ashby, Minn. Over the years the family lived in several towns in western Minnesota and North Dakota, including Braddock, N.D., and Tintah, Minn.
Maurie graduated from Tintah High School in 1957. He then attended Valley City State University, where he received a bachelor's degree in education. He taught school for four years at Washington Elementary School in Detroit Lakes. He then worked for Mahube in Detroit Lakes for several years before starting his work at Rural Minnesota CEP, from which he retired in 1989.
Maurie spent winters in Casa Grande, Ariz. He enjoyed many things including golf, crossword puzzles, and the Minnesota Twins. But nothing was more important than time spent with his family.
He is survived by a daughter, Sheila (Jeff) Laney of Dilworth, Minn.; two sons, Thomas (Trish) Strom and Jon (Theresa) Strom, both of Fargo; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; mother, Edna Strom of Elbow Lake, Minn.; one brother, Roger (Liz) Strom of Ashby; two sisters, Carole (Doug) Daniels of Ashby and Debbie (Greg) Roberts of Ottertail, Minn.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his father, Maurice S. Strom; and one sister, Erma Erickson.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 29 at the United Methodist Church in Detroit Lakes, with burial following at Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
