Once again, Memorial Day festivities in Detroit Lakes will begin with a parade at 10 a.m. on Monday.

Starting in front of the Detroit Lakes Community & Cultural Center on Summit Avenue, the parade will wind its way through downtown Detroit Lakes and down Washington Avenue to the Detroit Lakes City Park, where a commemorative program begins at 10:30 a.m.


Special guest speaker will be Dennise Milton, U.S.A.R., a past 9th District American Legion Commander and chaplain for the Minnesota chapter.

In Audubon, services begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Community Center, hosted by the local Legion, VFW and VFW Auxiliary. Guest speaker will be Pastor David Beety.

Becker County Commissioner Larry Knutson will be the speaker at Wolf Lake's Memorial Day service, set for 11 a.m. in the Lions Community Hall. There will be a breakfast served by the Finnish-American Historical Society from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Frazee's festivities will begin with a 7 a.m. pancake and sausage breakfast at the VFW, for veterans, spouses, widows and parade participants, followed by the 10:30 a.m. parade on Maine Avenue. The parade will be followed by services at Town Lake.

In Vergas, there will be a 9 a.m. parade leading out to the Vergas Village Cemetery, where the memorial ceremony will take place.

Ogema VFW Post 9880, VFW Auxiliary and the White Earth Veteran's Association will conduct cemetery visitations in the White Earth, Ogema and Callaway area as follows:

Assemble at the Ogema VFW Hall, 7:30 a.m. Monday, May 25. Visit St. Columba's Episcopal Cemetery, White Earth at 8:15 a.m.; Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, White Earth, 8:30 a.m.; Assembly of God Cemetery, White Earth, 8:40 a.m.; Calvary Catholic Cemetery, White Earth, 8:50 a.m.; Aura Finnish Cemetery, Goat Ranch Road, 9:15 a.m.; Callaway Cemetery, Callaway, 10 a.m.; Ogema City Cemetery, Ogema, 10:30 a.m.; Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Cemetery, Ogema, 10:35 a.m.; Waubun City Cemetery, Waubun, 11:15 a.m.; St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Waubun, 11:30 a.m.; and Lake Grove Cemetery, 12 p.m.

There will be a 9 a.m. service at the Mahnomen County Courthouse in Mahnomen, hosted by the Mahnomen American Legion & Auxiliary Post 31.
