Merilyn Louise (Anderson) Fischer, 67, died Friday, February 4, 2011 in Maple Grove, Minn., surrounded by family and friends.
Merilyn was born the daughter of Emil and Clara (Hoaglund) Anderson on December 11, 1943 in Harvey, N.D. She was raised in Moorhead, and graduated from Moorhead High School. Following high school, Merilyn attended Moorhead State University, obtaining a degree in speech therapy.
Merilyn married Floyd Fischer at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, on July 24, 1965. Merilyn and Floyd were blessed with two children. They in Moorhead until 1983, when they relocated to the Vergas area.
Merilyn's love of decorating and the arts lead her to a 25-year career as co-owner of the Attic Shoppe, Ltd., in Vergas. Merilyn was also involved in numerous church and community organizations and loved traveling and spending time with family and friends.
In January of 2009 Merilyn became engaged to Rod Mittelsteadt of Grand Forks, N.D.
Surviving Merilyn are her daughters, Trudy (Lance) Olson of Edina, Minn., and Tracy (Derek) Gerasch of Maple Grove, Minn.; fiancé, Rod Mittelsteadt; grandchildren, Andrew and Sarah Olson; sisters, Linda (Glen) Huebner of Kensington, Minn., and Mary Ellen Hebert of Moorhead. She is also survived by numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces, cousins and friends.
Preceding Merilyn in death were her husband, Floyd Fischer; parents, Emil and Clara Anderson; and brothers, Donald Anderson and Glenn Anderson.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., in David-Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes.
Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church on Franklin Lake, 24897 Franklin Lake Rd., Pelican Rapids.
