Former Frazee and Perham resident Michael Holmer, 17, of Thief River Falls, died Sunday, October 12, 2008, at MeritCare Hospital in Thief River Falls, as the result of a vehicle accident.
Michael Duane Holmer was born to Brian Duane and Ivy Rose (Mondt) Holmer on Jan. 24, 1991, in Perham. He was baptized in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee, and confirmed in 2006 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Crookston. The family lived in Frazee, where Mike attended school until the fourth grade, when they moved to Bagley, Minn. He attended school in Bagley and Crookston, and was a senior at Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls at the time of his death. He also worked at Michael's Meats and McDonalds in Thief River Falls.
Mike was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed the outdoors and had a passion for snowmobiling. Hanging out with his friends was a daily task. He liked fixing cars and farming with his grandpa. He enjoyed driving the tractor and bulldozer. He was a helping hand for anyone who asked for help. He enjoyed welding and shop class at school and was a "hands on" person. His favorite food was ramen noodles and he kept a secret stash of them.
Mike played football and hockey for a couple of years. He enjoyed roller blading with his friends, collecting Pez and reading. He was member of the FFA.
Surviving Michael are his father, Brian (Heidi) Holmer of Thief River Falls; mother, Ivy (Steve Heden) Holmer of Plummer, Minn.; two brothers, Damon Gumphrey of Richville and Brett Holmer of Thief River Falls; sister, Briana Holmer of Thief River Falls; maternal grandmother, Clara Mondt of Clearbrook, Minn.; paternal grandparents Duane and Beverly Holmer of Frazee; as well as numerous aunts and uncles, other relatives and friends.
Preceding Michael in death was his maternal grandfather, Jack Mondt.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at the Lincoln High School Auditorium. There will be a 7 p.m. prayer service, with the Rev. George Davis officiating. Friends may also call for one hour prior to the start of services Saturday at the high school.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Lincoln High School Auditorium in Thief River Falls, with the Rev. William Reck officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.
