Mildred J. Vizenor, 96, Detroit Lakes, died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, in St. Mary's Nursing Center, Oak Crossing, Detroit Lakes.
Mildred J. Vizenor was born on April 26, 1913, in Minneapolis, Minn., to John and Annie Haslerud. At the age of 7, the family moved to Erie Township in rural Detroit Lakes. Mildred attended District 26 Erie School. On the way to school and back, she often heard and saw wolves, which weren't as frightening to her as some of the neighborhood dogs. She was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes and has been a member of Bakke Lutheran Church for many years. On March 15, 1940, she was united in marriage to Leo Vizenor. They resided in the Detroit Lakes area their entire lives. She was a homemaker who devoted her entire life to her family. Gardening, canning, cooking, and watching her bachelor buttons, four o'clocks and moss roses bloom in her garden as well as the beautiful trees on the north side of Detroit Mountain gave her a great sense of belonging. Leo passed away in July of 1984. Shortly after his death, she moved to Pleasant View Apartments, where she lived for 14 years. She moved to St. Mary's Nursing Center in 1998.
She is survived by two daughters, Lorraine Anderson, Detroit Lakes, Jeanette Streander, Dowingtown, Penn.; a son, Larry (Teresa) Vizenor, Marinette, Wis.; eight grandchildren; Renita Moschitta, Lynette Martin, Steven Streander, Nyle Anderson, Rhys Anderson, Lowell Vizenor, Louis Vizenor and Tara McQuillan; 10 great-grandchildren, Brittany Tompkins, Ashley Martin, Emily, Owen, and Olivia McQuillan, Taylor, Alexa, and Gabriel Anderson, and Noak and Amelia Anderson.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo; two brothers, Ralph Doyle and Arnold Landgren; a sister-in-law, Betty Landgren, and a son-in-law, Noel Anderson.
