Feb. 10, 1928-Jan. 21, 2011
Millard Henry Sivertson, 82, son of Henry and Ruth (Linman) Sivertson, brother to Elton Sivertson and Millicent (Sivertson) Harlow, passed away on Jan. 21, 2011, at Sanford Health in Fargo, N.D.
Millard, born Feb. 10, 1928, in Fargo as a twin to Millicent and younger brother to Elton, grew up and attended school in the Osage area of Minnesota. Tragically, while the children were at school on Feb. 18, 1937, the Sivertson house was destroyed by fire caused by an explosion. This resulted in the death of both parents. Millard, 9 years old, was then raised by his grandparents, Sivert and Mary Sivertson, homesteaders of Sivertson Lake.
On Nov. 1, 1950, Millard enlisted as an auto mechanic in the U.S. Army and served honorably until his discharge on Oct. 31, 1952. As a younger man, Millard worked for the Fargo-Detroit Ice Company and did the same in the state of Washington. He also worked as a farmhand in the local area.
Millard, a longtime resident of Lamplight Manor in Detroit Lakes, enjoyed his apartment, caregivers and his privacy.
Millard was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ruth Sivertson; his brother, Elton; and his twin sister, Millicent.
He is survived by Sivertson cousins, Velda Deike, Bernette Leslie, Vaida Wetteland; and a nephew and niece, Scott and Debbie Harlow, children of his sister Millicent.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Inurnment at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery at Osage, will take place later this summer.
