Authorities on March 18 executed an arrest warrant on Thomas Allen Disselkamp, who was later charged with one count of cruelty to animals, a felony, and misdemeanor domestic assault.

Washington County deputies were called March 14 to Disselkamp’s home for a domestic disturbance report. A man later identified as Disselkamp yelled at them to go away, according to a criminal complaint. Deputies took up positions outside the residence, where they discovered a dead cat.

While they waited, other authorities reached the alleged victim and took a statement from her. The woman said Disselkamp became belligerent after a day of drinking, the complaint states. After becoming upset that another family member might acquire the family cat of 10 years, Disselkamp was witnessed strangling the cat, the complaint says.

“(The woman) heard this awful screeching noise from out in the garage,” the complaint says.“She said the noise was loud and unforgettable.”

The woman left the house and called police.
