The additional benefits mean that some unemployed workers will be eligible for up to 86 weeks of benefits in Minnesota when combined with earlier compensation extensions. These weeks of benefits are payable beginning this week.

Unemployment benefits typically are available for up to 26 weeks. In addition to regular benefits, the federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation Program provides up to 47 additional weeks of unemployment benefits, including the 14-week extension that was just added.

Finally, another 13 weeks of federal-state benefits are available to Minnesotans who have exhausted regular and emergency unemployment compensation. The maximum weekly benefit in Minnesota is $585. About 175,000 unemployed workers are currently requesting benefits in Minnesota weekly.
