Missing Proctor teacher under investigation for sexual conduct
Detroit Lakes Minnesota 511 Washington Avenue 56501

An Esko man and Proctor High School teacher who was investigated Thursday for inappropriate sexual conduct has been missing since Wednesday and is feared to be suicidal.

Kyle Neumann was reported missing from his Thomson Township home by his wife, Gretchen Neumann, according to the Town of Thomson Police Department. She told police her husband might be in possession of a firearm.

Proctor police officers were at the high school and middle school building Thursday at about 12:30 p.m. conducting an investigation, Proctor Police Chief Walter Wobig said.

Wobig said a complaint was made to the department from someone believing that "inappropriate sexual conduct was occurring at the school."

While he would not specifically name who was being investigated, Wobig confirmed that it was the same person for whom Thompson police were searching.

An air search of Neumann's last known location just north of Duluth probably will take place today, Thompson Police chief Tom Faldesi said. Neumann also has been listed as a missing person in a national database. He's 6 feet, 1 inch tall, weighs about 210 pounds, has a medium build and probably was last wearing a blue or gray North Face coat and blue jeans or tan pants, Faldesi said. He is believed to be driving a 2006 GMC Sierra pickup that is blue with a silver bottom. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.

Neumann is not considered to be a threat to anyone else, Faldesi said.

Wobig said his investigation revealed that any alleged conduct did not happen at Proctor High School, and that the investigation would be turned over to the Town of Thomson Police Department with assistance from the Carlton County Sheriff's Department.

Neumann's wife, Gretchen, did not return a call for comment.
