MN Secretary of State Ritchie won’t seek re-election
Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie said today that he will not seek re-election to a third term.
He will serve out his current term which ends January 2015.
“This was a difficult decision for me. But after months of thought and discussion with family, I concluded that January 2015 will be the right time for me to step aside — making way for the next generation of talented leadership in the Office of the Secretary of State,” said Ritchie.
Ritchie was first elected in November 2006 with a four-year term beginning in January 2007. The 61-year-old Minneapolis resident was re-elected to a second term in 2010.
Among the accomplishments of the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State under his leadership, Ritchie cites Minnesota remaining number-one in voter turnout; greater efficiency in business services; launching of the Safe at Home address confidentiality program; and the handling of two critical election recounts with care and integrity.
