ST. PAUL - MNsure officials say their second day online went very smoothly.

By 2 p.m. Wednesday, nearly a day after the online health purchasing Web site went live, Minnesotans had created more than 2,500 accounts. How-ever, MNsure officials could not say how many policies were purchased.

An average of 2,000 to 3,000 people were online at any one time.

The health care exchange launched Tuesday afternoon. The state-operated program is in response to new federal health care law to allow Americans to compare and buy health insurance policies on line.

Most people who are covered by employer-sponsored insurance pro-grams will not be affected. But those receiving government subsidies must use MNsure and people without insurance may buy there or through insurance agents.

Insurance policies on MNsure are offered by private companies, but the on line operation MNsure is run by the state.
