Mom to be charged for leaving son, 6, in car
COTTAGE GROVE, Minn. - Police say a Woodbury mother likely will be charged with child neglect after leaving her young son unattended in her car while she shopped at a Cottage Grove store.
Cottage Grove police were called to Target, 8655 East Point Douglas Road, shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday, after a customer reported seeing a child alone in the backseat of a car in the store parking lot.
Police located the 35-year-old mother. The woman, whose 4-year-old daughter was with her, told police her son was sleeping and she thought it would be OK to leave him in the vehicle. The woman said she had been shopping for 20 to 30 minutes.
The vehicle was locked but not running while the boy was inside.
Police are still investigating but told the woman she would be charged with child neglect, according to the report.
