Moorhead marking trees and landmarks to show 41-foot river crest level
MOORHEAD - Moorhead officials said Friday city staff and independent contractors are going door-to-door along the Red River to mark on trees or other landmarks where a 41-foot flood crest would reach.
Officials also encouraged property owners to notify the city if they are aware of any vacant homes that someone will need to check on in the event of a flood. People should call (218) 299-5390 to report vacant properties. That is also the number to call if people have questions.
Moorhead renewed its calls for volunteers, stating anyone wanting to help sandbag Saturday should show up at Nemzek Hall on the Minnesota State University Moorhead campus starting at 8 a.m.
People will need to show IDs to register to volunteer, or to receive sand or sandbags at any of the city's distribution centers.
IDs are being checked because the city wants to make sure sand and sandbags go to areas that need it the most.
