Moorhead police decline chase, still get arrests
Detroit Lakes Minnesota 511 Washington Avenue 56501

After declining to pursue a high-speed chase in a residential area, police in Moorhead arrested three people suspected of dealing methamphetamine thanks to a tip from area neighbors.

Suspecting there would be meth inside, police tried to pull over a vehicle near Fourth Street South and Valley Avenue on Thursday, but the driver took off north at a high speed, Lt. Tory Jacobson said.

The officer decided not to chase the vehicle because of safety concerns, Jacobson said. After seeing there were no police on their tail, two suspects fled on foot from the car, he said.

One was immediately arrested by a drug investigator. Police found the second suspect on foot with help from a call from the public. The driver was pulled over a short time later on Interstate 94 south of Moorhead.

Jacobson said calls from three residents in the area were essential to the quick arrests, something the out-of-town suspects might not have anticipated.

"They're probably not used to this kind of community response," he said.

Arrested on suspicion of felony drug charges were Lee Allen Wegener, 41, of Coon Rapids, Minn.; Kati Ann Struzyk, 23, of Coon Rapids; and Giavonte Dominique Foulks, 23, of Brooklyn Park, Minn.
