Bruce Jacobs said that the market is there for a campground.

"There are more and more campgrounds closing down now," he said. "There aren't a lot of campgrounds being built on lakes."

The campground is open from May 1 to Oct. 1. It also provides storage for RVs and trailers during the off-season.

Each of the 45 lots in the campground are 47 feet by 62 feet in dimension with 50-amp electricity, water and sewage. The campsites come with optional cable TV, high-speed Internet or local phone service.

In addition, each lot can have decks, approved fire rings and small sheds. Dogs and cats are welcome as well.

For gardeners, a few lots have room for a small garden.

"They can landscape it and plant flowers," Jacobs said.

Not catering to a specific group, it offers activities for all ages. There is a swimming beach, playground, horseshoe pits, sand volleyball court and picnic tables.

"We welcome anybody," Jacobs said. "It's an ideal place for someone in an RV that goes south for the winter and they want a place up north."

The campground sits on what used to be farmland. The Jacobs' still the land surrounding the campground for cattle and horses.

"We thought it would provide a retirement income and preserve the farm," Jacobs said.

For boaters, it's an ideal place. Boat slips are available, 18 in all, to rent for those who want to keep a boat in the lake for the summer. Day docks are available for campground guests free of charge.

Boaters who leave their watercraft on a trailer can use electrical hook-ups for batter charging.

When it's time to come in from fishing, a fish cleaning house sits adjacent to the main campground building.

While the campground has been a work in progress for a few years, once the dirt was turned last June, construction went by quickly.
