Mother, four children escape uninjured from Fargo house fire
FARGO -- A mother and four children escaped harm Monday night after their home in north Fargo caught fire.
The fire at 1641 Broadway was reported just before 6 p.m.
The fire apparently started in a bedroom of the home, according to Assistant Fargo Fire Chief Larry Schuh.
He said seven people live in the house, but only five were home - a mother and four kids, including a 1-year-old.
"Smoke detectors were working and that's how she (the mother) was alerted to the fire in the bedroom," said Fire Capt. Robert Cuchna.
The house suffered smoke, fire and water damage, according to Cuchna.
"It would be significant damage," he said.
Everyone got out of the house safely, Cuchna said.
"The Salvation Army has got their canteen here, so we've got warm places for family members and for the firefighters to warm up," said Schuh, who said a specific cause for the fire had not been determined.
