The accident was one of several fatal crashes authorities in eastern North Dakota reported Sunday.

The motorcycle incident happened about 6 p.m. at the intersection of Cass County Road 81 and Cass County Road 18, said Sgt. Gail Wischmann of the Cass County Sheriff's Department.

Wischmann said the couple were riding the motorcycle on County Road 81 when they were unable to avoid colliding with a pickup that was driving on County Road 18 and did not stop or yield for the motorcycle.

The identities of the deceased, as well as the two occupants of the pickup truck, were not available Sunday night.

The incident is being investigated by the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Wischmann said.

In other fatal crashes, a 15-year-old male riding a mini bike was struck and killed by a car.

In that incident, Bill Bennett, 35, of Cavalier, N.D., was driving south on Highway 18 near Hoople, N.D., when his car collided with a mini bike that was driving on Walsh County Road 1A and failed to stop or yield at the intersection of the two roads, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The 15-year-old driver of the mini bike, who was from Hoople, was thrown from the bike and was later pronounced dead at the scene, the patrol said.

The incident occurred about 2:35 p.m. Sunday.

The victim's name was being withheld Sunday night pending notification of relatives.

In a crash that occurred about an hour earlier, a car exiting off Interstate 29 onto North Washington north of Grand Forks failed to yield or stop for a vehicle driven by Juan Mata Jr., 19, of Mekinock, N.D., that was northbound on Washington, according to the highway patrol.

Mata and the 83-year-old male driver and 87-year-old male passenger in the other car were all taken to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, where the 87-year-old was pronounced dead, the patrol said.

The identity of the deceased and the driver of the car he was riding in were being withheld Sunday night pending notification of family members.
