Murder charges expected in Minnesota prisoner’s death
STILLWATER, Minn. -- The Washington County Attorney’s Office is expected to file murder charges against an Oak Park Heights prison inmate who allegedly strangled a fellow prisoner Monday, authorities said.
Inmate Shane Lawrence Cooper, 30, was found dead Monday on the floor of his cell with a ligature around his neck, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
The BCA said surveillance footage captured another inmate, Benjamin Heath Beck, 39, entering Cooper's cell shortly before he was found. Beck was identified as the sole suspect.
BCA agents continue to investigate the case with help from multiple agencies, which will present findings to the Washington County Attorney's Office for review.
