Nathan Perrine

Nathan L. Perrine, 83, of Rochert, died on Monday, February 4, 2008 in his home, with his family by his side and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Nathan LeRoy Perrine was born the son of Ignatius and Minnie (Miller) Perrine on July 2, 1924 in Sherburn, Minn. He moved with his family to Rochert, where he was raised and attended country school. In March 1943, he enlisted in the United States Army, and served during World War II. Following his honorable discharge in November 1944, Nathan moved back to Rochert.

Nathan married Florence Halverson on Aug. 6, 1950 at United Methodist Church, Detroit Lakes. He worked as a carpenter in Rochert. They subsequently moved throughout the United States, living in Oklahoma and in Midland, Texas, where he worked in the oil fields and did carpentry work. Nathan also lived in Rugby, N.D., where he worked for Western Products as a salesman. They later moved to Frazee, and then back to the family farm in Rochert.

Nathan enjoyed playing pool, card games, card tricks, hunting and fishing. He trained horses and was a jockey while living in California. In the Army, Nathan was a paratrooper and he also took up the sport of boxing.

Surviving Nathan are his six sons, Gary (Sally) Perrine of Detroit Lakes, Ken Perrine of Rochert, Ronald (Erva) Perrine of Frazee, Eugene (Esther) Perrine of Marysville, Wash., Randy (Tammi) Perrine of Kalispell, Mont., and Jeff (Kathy) Perrine of Rochert; two daughters, Patty (Bob) Weissenstein of Rochert and Cindy (Bob) Mayfield of Frazee; his former wife and best friend, Florence Perrine of Frazee; a brother, Nash (Elsa) Perrine of Ortonville, Minn.; a sister, Wanitta Lenius of Gresham, Ore.; 33 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Don and Minnie; his brothers, Dawning and Gordon Perrine and twin brothers at infancy; his sisters, Janice Rasmussen, Mildred Perrine and Marie Perrine; two grandsons, Ronald Perrine, Jr., and Jeremy Mayfield; a granddaughter, Nicole Ziegler; and a great granddaughter, Sophia Perrine.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Furey Funeral Home, Frazee, and continuing Sunday for one hour prior to services in the church.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Northwoods Harvest Barn, Rochert, with the Rev. Brian Erickson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furey Funeral Home, Frazee.
