Native American Music Festival is set
This Saturday, Nov. 21, Mahnomen's Shooting Star Casino hosts a special Native American Music Festival, featuring up-and-coming native musicians including Indigenous, Crystal Shawanda and Derek Miller, as well as "Big Kenny" Alphin, of the chart-topping country music duo Big & Rich.
Alphin has had a rich country-rock music since first gaining fame as a songwriter. He wrote smash hits for artists like Tim McGraw, Gretchen Wilson and Jason Aldean as well as Big & Rich.
Indigenous -- a powerful trio made up of Mato, Wandbi and Pte -- has a bluesy rock sound that has the industry taking note. Crystal Shawanda has made her dream of becoming a Nashville country music star come true, after having grown up at Wikwemikong in Canada, and Derek Miller is an award-winning, blues-based rocker, born and raised on the Six Nations Reserve in Ontario.
Catch all these stars on the rise at the Native American Music Festival, which gets underway at 4 p.m. The event is hosted by popular comedy/music duo Williams & Ree ("The Indian & the White Guy").
