Native dance troupe performs Friday in DL
The Historic Holmes Theatre in Detroit Lakes, along with the Detroit Lakes High School Native American Community, is excited to bring The Many Moccasins Dance Troupe to stage on Friday, May 21, at 6:30 p.m. for a free concert.
Founded in 2001, the Troupe has dancers and singers range in age from toddler to elder.
Many Moccasins performs at schools, colleges, conferences, fairs and powwows. The Many Moccasins Dance Troupe will perform singing and dancing with educational explanations of the different dance styles.
Many of their dancers are just beginning, others are up and coming champions, and other members are veterans to the powwow circuit, winning many awards and competitions. The dance troupe educates others and represents their tribes as well as themselves in the best way they know, by being themselves.
This activity is made possible in part by a grant provided by the Minnesota State Arts Board, through an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature from the Minnesota arts and cultural heritage fund with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on Nov. 4, 2008, and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
