Naytahwaush man heads to prison for burglary
A Naytahwaush man has been convicted and sentenced in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of third degree burglary.
Randy Lee Bellanger, 40, was ordered to serve 23 months in prison, with credit for 144 days’ time served, and fined $135, to be paid from his prison earnings.
Bellanger was convicted of entering the garage of a White Earth residence without permission on Sept. 18, 2012, and removing several items, including a battery charger/starter, a battery with a broken post and a jug of gasoline.
According to court records, he was identified via a surveillance video that showed a man entering the garage and removing the items.
The criminal complaint says that Bellanger allegedly contacted the homeowner and admitted to the burglary, apologized and said he would return the items.
He then came to her and offered $200 for her to hold until he could retrieve the stolen property, which the woman refused to take.
According to the complaint, the items were later dropped off at the residence by a woman driving a van; The investigation showed Bellanger contacted the homeowner again later, to ask if the items were returned, then apologized again.
