NDSU delays spring football; players sandbagging

FARGO - For the second straight year, the weather has hindered spring football at North Dakota State. Only this time, there are more important matters to address.

Like saving the city.

Monday was supposed to be the first day of practice, but the players will instead be sandbagging to fight the rising Red River. Head coach Craig Bohl said the tentative starting date is April 3, but it could possi-bly be later.

"We have some challenges," Bohl said, "but the city has more challenges than spring football right now."

The Bison grass practice fields are unusable from the snow melt and the new Sprinturf practice field at the site of old Dacotah Field is not finished. Last year, the Bison delayed practice a couple of weeks because of a late snow fall.
