It's Legacy Destination Weekend in Detroit Lakes, and that means there's lots of fun to be had in the lakes area this weekend.

The 15th Annual Festival of Birds continues tonight with an "Early Bird Social" at Richwood Winery from 4 to 5 p.m., followed by a 5:30 p.m. dinner at Maplelag Resort featuring a program on "Manitoba's Bird Central."

Over at Mahnomen's Shooting Star Casino, the 20th anniversary celebration also continues tonight with a sold-out concert by southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd.

The band will perform hits both familiar, like "Free Bird" and "Sweet Home Alabama," as well as selections from its newest album, "Last of a Dying Breed," starting at 8 p.m.

After the show, concert attendees will have the chance to win one of 10 $100 cash drawings and/or a guitar autographed by the band, as part of the casino's month-long 20th anniversary celebration. Call 800-313-7469 for more information.

The Festival of Birds continues Saturday with a full slate of activities at Minnesota State Community & Technical College-Detroit Lakes, including field trips to Hamden Slough, Tamarac Refuge, Sucker Creek Preserve and the Frazee School Forest.

There will be a Birders' Bazaar at the college from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and mini-sessions from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., followed by a special dinner and program in the Student Life Center featuring John Marzluff, a renowned expert on ravens, crows and other birds of the corvid species. The dinner starts at 6:15 p.m.

On Saturday afternoon, the Becker County Historical Society and Washington Square Mall will be hosting its final downtown walking tour, highlighting the community's historic buildings and points of interest. The tour starts at 1 p.m. in front of the Detroit Lakes School Administration Building on Lake Avenue; suggested donation for participating is $5.

Also on Saturday, the Becker County Museum, 714 Summit Ave., will be hosting the final showing of it is "Minnesota on the Homefront" traveling exhibit with a "Last Chance Viewing Party" from 10 a.m. to noon, featuring World War II-era music, activities and refreshments.

Also on Saturday, the Laurentian Lakes Chapter of the North Country Trail Association is hosting a guided 3-6-mile hike starting at the trailhead of the Greenwater Scientific and Nature Area at 9 a.m.

The trailhead is 1.7 miles west of Becker County Highway 37 on Becker Co. Hwy. 35. This will be a moderate hike with shuttle service for 3.6 miles on the trail between the Greenwater Scientific and Natural Area and the Camp 6 Forest Road trailheads in Becker County. Sunday is the final day of the Festival of Birds, with field trips leaving from M State including Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge at 5 a.m. and the Ulen Prairie/White Wind Preserve at 5:30 a.m. Call 800-542-3992 for more information.
