Former Frazee and Erskine resident Neil A. Berger, 51, of Grant Village, Wyo., died Saturday, August 28, 2010 in Yellowstone National Park near Grant Village.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3 at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes; there will be a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. and Parish Vigil at 7 p.m. The visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to services on Saturday.

A mass of Christian burial is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee, with Father Xavier Ilango officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Neil Allen Berger was born to Ignatius and Georgia (Mayfield) Berger on September 9, 1958 in Detroit Lakes. He was raised in rural Frazee and attended Frazee Public School.

Neil was united in marriage to Jeri LaVon Pickett Sept. 17, 1977 at Richwood Lutheran Church in rural Detroit Lakes. He served with the Detroit Lakes unit of the National Guard, 1981-87. During his working life, Neil held several positions, including having worked for Newman's Manufacturing, Paradise Mail Service, Kellen Farms, Marona Construction, Hoff Farms and, for the past nine years, was employed with the National Park Service in Yellowstone National Park at Grant Village.

He enjoyed time with his children and grandchildren, traveling, snowmobiling and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Jeri LaVon Berger of Grant Village; three sons, Chad of Erskine, Minn., Travis of Rochert and Jason (Jackie) Bolstad-Berger of Fargo;

two grandchildren, Claudia Berger and Rylee Bolstad; three sisters. Patricia (Bill) Schnieder of Bemidji, Rita (Arville) Thompson of Brookings, S.D., and Susan (Rodney) Winters of Detroit Lakes; five brothers, Roger (Irene) of Anoka, Minn., John (Kathy) of Perham, Stanley of Rochert, Michael (Jeannie) of Giddings, Texas, and Mark (Dana) of Rochert.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Paul.
