New father arrested at Sanford birth unit
FARGO - A Crosby man was arrested at Sanford Health's birth unit Friday after police say he swore and yelled at the mother of his child and a case worker, then asked for help getting his gun.
Court documents state Branton Tyler Jones, 27, was in a birth unit room with his child's mother and the newborn when he began arguing with and yelling at the child's mother, then punching himself in the face, drawing blood.
Employees at Sanford asked him to leave. When the case worker asked him if he needed help, court documents allege Jones responded "Ya, you can help me get my gun."
Court records say the case worker then became alarmed for the lives of the infant and the mother and called security.
Police arrested Jones and searched his bags while booking him into the jail, allegedly discovering two hydrocodone pills.
He was charged Monday in Cass County District Court with possession of a controlled substance, a Class C felony. He also faces a disorderly conduct charge in Fargo Municipal Court.
In a Tuesday court appearance, his bail was set at $500.
