New Year's Eve Bash at DLCCC
Kids are invited to come enjoy a "Day Out" at the Detroit Lakes Community & Cultural Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 22, 23, 29 and 30. When school's not in session, the DLCCC provides a safe place for kids to have some fun! Each day features themed games, activities and crafts: Dec. 22's theme is "Reindeer Games," Dec. 23 is "Snow Day," Dec. 29 is "International Day" and the Dec. 30 theme is "Planet Earth." Looking for an entertaining way to spend your New Year's Eve? Bring your friends and family to the Detroit Lakes Community & Cultural Center New Year's Eve Bash, Wednesday, Dec. 31, from 6-10 p.m. There will be organized gym and pool games, Hank the Hound will be in the pool and the 22-inch giant slide will be set up in the fieldhouse. Play bingo, join in the balloon drop, try out the DLCCC's climbing wall and much more! The cost is just $5 per person or $20 per family, and includes hot dogs, chips and pop. The calligraphy designs of Detroit Lakes artist Douglas J. Fliss are on display through Jan. 31 at the Detroit Lakes Public Library. A former partner in the Fargo-based liturgical art studio StudioWorks LLC, which designed and produced stained glass windows and mosaics for churches, Fliss is a graduate of the commercial art program at Minnesota State Community & Technical College and the Concordia College studio arts program. He worked closely with renowned regional artist David Hetland for over 30 years.
A new exhibit about Butler Township, created specifically for Butler's recent 125th anniversary celebration, is now on display at the History Museum of East Otter Tail County in Perham. Photographs and stories about the township will be on display through the end of the year.
