No. 2 Frazee sticks Laker matmen

Email

The matchups were not kind for the Detroit Lakes wrestling team against the Class 1A's No. 2 Frazee Hornets Thursday.

The Hornets had their way with the Lakers in a 60-6 victory, as Frazee recorded six pins on the night.

"That was one aspect I was very disappointment in, the amount of pins we gave up," said DL head coach Rob Ullyott. "Obviously, Frazee is a good team and we didn't match up well at all with them. Where we were strong, they were stronger and where they were young, we were younger."

The Lakers' two wins came at 160 pounds, with an 8-4 decision for Alex Feldt against Brandon Vanwatermulen, and Garrett Foltz winning the 140 match 3-1 over Cody Piper.

Frazee started off fast and furious, winning the first six matches, which included two pins by Trevor Stilke at 103 and Tanner Ellenberg at 119.

The dual was DL's final of the regular season, as they prepare for the section tournament.

Ullyott estimates the Lakers will gain the fifth seed and face either No. 4 Thief River Falls or Staples-Motley.
