No races yet in school, city filing

There is less than one week left for Becker County residents interested in running for open city and school board seats to file for an affidavit of candidacy.

Filing closes Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 5 p.m. at every location.

Here’s a look at who has filed for the open seats as of Tuesday afternoon.

Detroit Lakes School Board:

With three school board seats open, only two incumbents have filed so far.

David Langworthy and Brenda Muckenhirn have filed to keep their seats. Nobody has filed for Glenn Gifford’s seat, vacated by Terri Boyd, who moved out of state.

The district office is located at 702 Lake Ave; office hours are Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to noon.

Frazee-Vergas School Board

Out of the four open school board seats here, only one person has filed so far — incumbent Matt Bauer.

Seats held by Richard Ziegler, Ken Fett and James Nelson are also open.

The district office is open from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Lake Park-Audubon School Board

Over half the seats here are open — four out of seven, and so far three people have put their names in. Incumbent Rich Veit along with

David O’Connell and Sean Degerstrom have filed.

Open seats also include those held by Vicki Gron-dahl, Michael McIntire and Jeff Swetland.

The district office is located in the Lake Park High School with hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Friday 7:30 a.m. to noon.

Waubun-Ogema-White Earth School Board

There are four seats open for this school district, and so far two incumbents have filed for their seats — Mark Rothschadl and Stacy Bly.

Seats held by Christi Haverkamp and Jon Syverson are also open.

The district office, which is at the Waubun High School, is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

City of Detroit Lakes

Three people have filed for city council positions with the city of Detroit Lakes.

Incumbents Dave Aune, Dan Wenner and G.L. Tucker have filed.

Seats held by Madelyn Sukke and Al Brevik, both aldermen-at-large, are also open, but nobody has filed for those yet.

Residents interested in filing for these seats can do so at the city administration building at 1025 Roosevelt Avenue.

City of Frazee

All incumbents are back in the game in Frazee.

Frazee Mayor Hank Ludtke has filed to keep his position for another two years, and so far he is the only one.

Also running unopposed so far are city council incumbents Bonnie Julius and Ken Miosek.

The city office is located at 114 Lake St N, Frazee; office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

City of Lake Park

There are two city council seats open in Lake Park and so far only two have filed.

Incumbent Dan Aune and Keith Zachariason have filed for the positions.

In addition to Aune’s seat, Kimberly Holloway’s is also open.

The city office is located at 2032 2nd Street in Lake Park. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

City of Audubon

Nobody has filed for any of the three open positions in the City of Audubon.

The position of mayor, currently held by Brad Grant, is open, as are two city council seats held by Carol Bergerson and Gary Bakken.

The city office is located at 273 4th St., Audubon. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

City of Callaway:

Callaway Mayor Gretchen Stalboerger is so far running unopposed, as she is the only one that has filed for the position.

Nobody has filed for the two city council seats yet that are currently held by Charles Loreth and Cliff Bryngelson. The city office is located at 6 Dakota St, Callaway.

City of Waubun

In Waubun, nobody has filed for any of the three open seats there.

The mayor position, held by Andrew Berg, and two city council positions, held by Jean Horack and Thomas Bement are open, but nobody has put their names in for any of them.

City of Vergas

Vergas Mayor Dean Haarstick has put his name back in the ring to keep his position, and so far he is running unopposed.

Duane Strand is thus far the only person who has filed for one of two city council seats open.

Those seats are currently held by Keith Bunkowske and Scott Goodman, neither of which have filed.

The city office is located in the municipal liquor store at 117 E Main St. in Vergas.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

City of Ogema

Treasurer Frank Rousu has filed to keep his position for four more years.

James Dassinger is the only one who has so far filed for one of the two open city council seats.

Mary Vaseka and Timothy Savior currently hold those seats.

City of Wolf Lake

No information on current filing status was available from Wolf Lake as of Tuesday afternoon.

The position of mayor, currently held by Cornell Ylitalo and two city council positions, held by John Aho and Nate Aho, are open.

File at the city office, located at 122 West John-son Street. It is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
