Norbert H. Rohr, 86, of Bluffton, Minn., died of heart failure on Thursday, February 5, 2009 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo.
Norbert Henry Rohr was born the eighth child of Nicholas and Mabel (Hancock) Rohr on July 16, 1922, in McHugh Township near Detroit Lakes. He married Vivian Palmer of Frazee on Oct. 16, 1945. He drove truck for Daggett Truck Lines from 1943 to 1956. In 1956, Norbert and Vivian moved their family from Frazee to a dairy farm they purchased near Bluffton.
In addition to farming, Norbert hauled cattle and livestock for area farmers from 1965 to 1995. He belonged to the National Farmers Organization (NFO) for many years. Norbert loved to drive truck, farm, travel with Vivian to visit relatives, attend church festivals, and spend time with his grandchildren.
Norbert will be dearly missed by his family and friends, including his loving wife, Vivian; their eight children, John (Toni) Rohr of Indianapolis, Ind., Dan (Kim) Rohr of Northfield, Minn., Nick (Lorna) Rohr of New York Mills, Nancy (Tom) Hendrickx of Butler, Minn., Mark (Carol) Rohr of Bluffton, Mary (Steve) Brand of Ellsworth, Wis., Janelle Rohr of West St. Paul and Kathy Rohr of Bluffton; his sister, Winifred Jenson of Detroit Lakes; and 22 grandchildren as well as many other relatives and friends.
Family members preceding Norbert in death were his parents; his brother, Ted Rohr; sisters Margaret Isaacs, Florence Hoffman, Dorothy Tobkin, Eleanor Stonelake, Gertrude Zurn and their spouses; and his grandson, Adam Rohr.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9, at Karvonen & Son Funeral Home in New York Mills. There will be parish prayers at 6 p.m.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bluffton, with the Rev. Donald Wagner officiating.
The pallbearers will be Wayne Hoffman, Art Tobkin, Jim Rohr, Roger Jenson, Sylvestor Zurn, and Anthony Zurn. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery, Bluffton.
